The Gift of Joy

Day Twenty-Two

Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy and good will. But how many times have we seen it has not been. Discontentment and anger abounds. Disappointment about not getting what you want, having to wear a mask, illness, death, unemployment, loneliness, and a general lack of pandemic peace are only a few things that are happening now. Joy is a gift from God for every day not just Christmas. “A Heart Prepared: Savor the Story of Christmas Advent Legacy Journal” emphasizes this in today’s Bible study.

When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. (Matthew 2:10-12)

The Magi were not just happy to see The King, they were overjoyed to see the star directing them to Him. They came from far away to see The Source of great joy.

Earlier this week my dad and I attended a Celebration of Life gathering for my cousin. He resides with the Lord eternally as we miss him here on earth. Family and friends had to grab and go box lunches for the repast and not gather. However, it was joyful conversing through covered faces with loved ones. These times come with sadness, but God gives us joy to endure.
