Day Seventeen
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:12-14)
This Advent Bible Study with “A Heart Prepared: Savor the Story of Christmas Advent Legacy Journal” today has helped me to see the visual of the shepherds in the field receiving this message. I had previously glazed over overseeing the part about “a great company of the heavenly host appeared . . . praising God and saying ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those to whom his favor rests.'” Wow! A mass of angels singing and praising God in addition to praises of peace for those God favors like you and me!
So many songs of Christmas flow out of my car radio while I drive. I can’t help but bust out in song. There are so many and it is hard to come up with a favorite. However my absolute favorite which brought tears to my when I first heard it and still does is “Mary Did You Know”. When I first heard that song I was placed in Mary’s seat. How much did she know? Tons of others fill my playlist such as: “Silent Night”, “Oh Holy Night”, and “What Child Is This?” I also enjoy the secular ones such as “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire”, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”, and “White Christmas”. When I was a teenager in the Jackson Five Fan club “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” was added.
The day after Thanksgiving begins our tradition of watching Christmas movies and cartoons everyday. We save our favorite for Christmas Eve “Albert Finney Scrooge”. I love the “Thank You Very Much” song in this musical.
This time of year is for songs of praise magnified for our Savior born for us.
