Adopted by the King

Day Twelve

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. (Galatians 4:4-7)

“A Heart Prepared: Savor the Story of Christmas Advent Legacy Journal” reminds us that God sent His son Jesus so that we can be His children eternally. Because of Him I stopped looking for love in other people and things. Because of Him I am dearly loved even when I am not lovable. I am part of His Kingdom family and I need nothing else but Him.

We love to travel to far away places. However, Christmas Day must be in Cleveland with our children and my dad. One day we hope we can travel with them on Christmas. Instead God has enabled us to travel twice near the holiday. The first one was on a cruise with two of Dan’s siblings, church family, and friends on a cruise to the Western Caribbean in December 2008. The second time was in December 2016 with friends on a cruise and in a hotel to Hawaii. The purpose of that trip was for three of us to walk 26.2 miles in the Honolulu Marathon. We vacationed first on a cruise to several Hawaiian islands and then stayed in a Waikiki hotel. On either trip none of us were physical family except Dan’s two sisters. The time spent together eating, touring, and living in the sun created a family bond for that time. This gave us a glimpse of what it feels like to be adopted into a family and loved.
