Day Ten
Joseph and Mary, swollen with the Lord Jesus, were commanded to go to Bethlehem. They were probably not thrilled about making that journey back home with Mary so close to delivery, but they had no choice. “A Heart Prepared: Savor the Story of Christmas Advent Legacy Journal” started me on their journey and my own moves.
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. (Luke 2:1-3)
During my sixty-five years of life I have lived in six homes. Four of them I had no choice because my parents moved me and the last two my husband and I purchased and we made the choice.
The first home was in my Uncle Melvin’s and Aunt Helen’s home. My cousin Melvin, Jr. and I were both infants in this home. I have fond memories of this place into adulthood. The second home was a shared duplex with an aunt and uncle. I remember nothing about this place only pictures. The third home was my parents’ two-family up and down with attic and basement. This was my childhood place of play with my best friend, Cheryl, and brother, Jimmy. The fourth home was my parents’ two-story with finished basement bungalow. My preteen and teen years was spent here and where my hubby and I had our first kiss. The fifth home Dan and I purchased a two-story bungalow with three bedrooms and a attic on a slab. We brought our first born son, Danny Jr. here. This home we spent many days involved with Cub and Boy Scouts with boys camping in our backyard. When our daughter was born and we out grew that house we moved to a larger bungalow with a basement and larger yard. Raising two children eight-years apart through schooling, Boy/Girl Scouts, and life issues happened here. Now we are empty nesters in this last home. It is a place for children and grandchildren to gather.
Reflecting on the moves God had for me reminds me that God always has a place for us to be for His purpose, whether we ever know it or not. My six homes have played a part in developing me into the person I am now. I am praying that my seventh home will be with God eternally when He calls me home.
